Downstream Response to Imposing Flow Transformation (DRIFT)

DRIFT is an Eflows decision support system (software model) that provides detailed and transparent predictions of how ecosystems will change under different water development scenarios or other management influences. It is a tool for synthesizing data, global literature, expert opinion and local knowledge in a structured and explicit process to determine the ecological, social and economic implications of proposed developments or scenarios on a river system.

Typical Use Case

A user will user DRIFT to assess the environmental impacts of a given project at basin or site specific level on the river ecosystem and its dependent biota and stakeholders, and for identifying and evaluating appropriate mitigation strategies. The findings and output are often used as the basis for discussion and negotiation between regulatory authorities and other stakeholders to determine the agreed development strategy for a basin, sub-catchment, or a specific project.
